Ogden Airport Flight Training FAQs for 2026

Searching for an Ogden airport flight school usually starts with a few practical questions. Where is it, what will I fly, and what happens on my first visit? Our team at Hangar 397 wrote these answers, and each one links to a longer guide if you want more detail.

We train out of Ogden-Hinckley Airport (KOGD), and you will find us at 3911 Airport Rd, Hangar 397, Ogden, UT 84405. If you are driving from Salt Lake City, Bountiful, or Layton, you head north. Our guide on how to find Blitz Aviation at Ogden Airport has the address, hours, and a first-visit checklist, and you can call 801-823-4122 if you would like to talk it through.
Yes. People use all three names for the same airport, and KOGD is its airport identifier. A search for any of them leads to the field where our hangar sits. Our hangar tour shows what you will see at our end of it.
Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call 801-823-4122 and we will set up your visit. Lessons are scheduled separately, with early morning, evening, and weekend slots, so a full-time job does not have to stand in your way. A discovery flight also begins with a tour of the facility and an introduction to your instructor.
Our fleet currently includes six aircraft: a Cirrus SR22T, three Cessna 172s, a Piper Archer II, and a Beechcraft Baron. Most students begin in one of our Cessna 172s, and the Baron comes in for multi-engine work. We are also a member of the Piper Flight School Alliance. You can see each airplane in our hangar tour.
A discovery flight takes about 1 hour, with 30 to 45 minutes in the air, and you need no experience. You start at Hangar 397 with a facility tour and an introduction to your Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). Then you have a ground briefing, you do a preflight inspection together, and you fly. Afterward you talk through your training options.

Bring a valid photo ID, wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, and skip the heavy meal beforehand. Our post on what to expect on your first discovery flight covers the full flow.
You do not need a student pilot certificate to take lessons. The FAA requires one before you fly solo. If you do not have an FAA medical certificate yet, we help guide you through getting one. Tell us where you are starting from, and we will help you plan your next steps.
Airports are either towered or non-towered. At a towered airport, controllers give you instructions. At a non-towered airport, pilots announce their position on a shared frequency. Private pilot training under 14 CFR 61.109 includes takeoffs and landings at an airport with an operating control tower, so working with controllers is part of your training.

Your instructor briefs the current local procedures for the airspace, frequencies, and traffic pattern before you fly, so you train from current information. Our post on your first flights out of Ogden-Hinckley Airport walks through how that sounds in the cockpit.
Each lesson has four parts: a ground briefing, a preflight inspection with your instructor, the flight, and a debrief. The briefing covers the weather, your headings, and what you will practice. Early lessons typically start with straight-and-level flight, climbs, descents, and turns before you move on to the traffic pattern and landings, and your instructor decides the pace. Weather can delay or change a lesson.
Most students train 2 to 3 sessions a week, which is typically enough for steady progress. If you want to finish sooner, our accelerated flight training programs use intensive daily training instead. Call us and we will help you match a schedule to your week.
No single airport is the best for every student. Look at traffic, airspace, weather, aircraft upkeep, instructor availability, and your drive. Our airport checklist for student pilots turns those into a scorecard you can use anywhere. You can also run it at our hangar in one visit.
